Animal-Assisted Therapy

Accepting New Clients in Person in Roswell, Georgia, and Online across Georgia

Helping adolescents, women, and couples address emotional distance or loneliness so they can find joy, humor, and achieve closeness with others.

Are you experiencing loneliness, or difficulty connecting with people? Is your fear of rejection getting in the way of enjoying social interactions? Do you feel like people don’t like you?

Using Animal-Assisted Therapy, I can help you identify the source of your fears so you can experience a positive connection with the people you care about while enjoying the comfort of Lumi’s presence.

What is Animal-Assisted Therapy?

Lumi is a 7-year-old Jack Russell Rat Terrier mix who enhances and complements traditional psychotherapy. An analysis of 49 studies regarding animal-assisted therapy discovered positive outcomes and overall improvement in the emotional well-being of clients when working with an animal. The psychological benefits of the human-canine connection include enhanced trust and reduced stress through the release of the hormone, oxytocin. These are ideal components for aiding therapeutic progress.

Meet Luminous, “Lumi”

I am a 7-year-old Jack Russell Terrier/Rat Terrier mix, but my human friends think I’m still a puppy! Everyone says I’m so sweet and that my coat is so soft and shiny (thank you by the way)! My parents found me at a shelter in Smyrna, Georgia, when I was only six months old. Before that, I was homeless roaming the streets and rummaging through garbage in Vidalia, GA! I’m so happy they found me (though you would be surprised by all the goodies people actually throw away)! Some of my favorite things to do include laying in the sun in a fluffy bed and snuggling with all of my human friends. I’m so friendly, and I have never met a stranger! You’ll see!

I have lots of really cute sun spots underneath my white fur and you can see them all over my belly. I usually get more during the summer months. I also love to go on walks, burrow under lots of cozy blankets, explore nature while losing track of time, and show my two big Husky brothers whose boss! Guess what? I can curl up and fall asleep by one of my favorite silly, squeaky, crinkle toys and my big brothers wouldn’t get near it! They wouldn’t dare! My all-time favorite thing to do is to go to Mommy’s office and cuddle up next to my many human clients (also my friends) that come to visit me! Sometimes, I might ask you to rub my belly or throw a toy for me, but usually, I just want to be right by your side listening to you. You have my loyal pointy ears all session long and I can’t wait to meet you!

Treats and cuddles,

Lumi
